Don’t be afraid of silence in your podcast

Make your peace with silence in your podcast.

There will be moments as you’re recording your podcast when your brain simply stops working. That clever comment you had banked for just the right moment will fall into oblivion. Your next question or topic idea will fall out of reach. It happens to all of us.

The key to the situation (and really, most situations) is to avoid panicking. The natural response to brain-fail moments is to yammer until you figure out how to get back on track. That filler chatter almost always betrays a nervous energy and lack of confidence.

Take a breath. Pause. Two or three seconds can feel like an eternity to a host, but not to a listener. Allow yourself a moment to reset and move thoughtfully ahead.
